The History of Textiles

It was the Industrial Revolution in England in the 19th century that saw the rapid development of textile industries and also fuelled a developing demand for quality textiles throughout Europe and the World. Copperplate printing gave way to roller printing, and chemical dyes produced in a full colour range were extensively used in production by 1840.

Today the changing face of Textiles can be seen from design to manufacture and will continue to evolve in the future. Computer-aided design over the past twenty-five years, has allowed product design on-screen without the inherent costs of making samples. The links between retailing and production have become closer and the ever shorter lead times for a fashion consious consumers have made the industry highly flexible and adaptable.
