Rufus Wainright (January 99)
Erik Johnson

Thanks to Cincinnati-Atlas for the opportunity to bring this young musician to your attention.

I just got Rufus' debut album - self titled Rufus Wainright.

This technical, interesting and richly textured album is years ahead of it's time.

Wainright's baritone voice is perfect, set against the unique piano arrangements, novel intrumentation and even an orchestra in one piece.

The songs are thoughtful, mostly heart-felt love songs and some pop music as well, but nothing hackneyed or run-of-the-mill.

It very much bothers me that this album gets little play on the air waves, because it is worthwhile for all classes of listener.
