Mommaparker / Son River
Live Show at Top Cat's Friday, October 2
Sirbeefalot

After some technical difficulties and a late start, Mommaparker hit the stage. The first few songs were hit and miss, it seemed like the band was not quite ready to open up and let loose. They hit their roll though on Nature Trail, (a carnivorous carousel ride to quote guitarist Tstz) and progressed into a 40 min set full of irreverence and debauchery worthy of De Sade. The song structures cover a wide range of styles, from the heavy (Beast and Birdman) to 1970's porn (Ron Jeremy/Smoothee). The lyrics fit well with the "pop" flow of the songs but really reach out and grab you the next day like a bad hangover. All in all, a good show despite a few weak moments.

These guys will be around and are sure to deliver a show that hits you like a vicious "kick in the crotch".

Son River delivered a solid performance with their heavy guitar laden grooves, solid Hip Hop type vocals and great harmonies thrown in. The biggest drawback to this entire show was the lack of crowd response. (possibly due to the lack of crowd)

I would encourage everyone to check these two bands out and lend a little support to a couple of local acts that obviously LOVE what they do.
